SmitCare developed from Smit & Co (later SmitCraft), whose business was primarily handicraft products. Smit & Co had been trading for around 60 years when Independent Living Products were brought in to the range. It was later decided that the products didn’t fit with the core business, so Tony & Trevor separated from the family business and established SmitCare to focus on Independent Living Products, with the company being registered in October 1998.
Initially the company was a key distributor for UK manufacturing companies, however developed “own brand” products over time. Collaboration with product designers and factories has resulted in the success of products like the DreamMaster Mattress Elevator, Medeci PillowLifter, Furniture Raisers and Bath Seats. More recently SmitCare took over the manufacture and distribution of the Myco Swivel Bather, whilst also developing the product in conjunction with the original designer to bring the product up to date.
SmitCare has been based in Camberley for the last 17 years, occupying a modern office & warehouse unit for the core of the business operations. The team consists of two Directors, two Administration staff and two Warehouse staff, with product support from an Occupational Therapist as required. The company supplies goods in bulk to Health & Social Services providers, as well as a few Retailers who are able to sell to the public.
SmitCare aims to continue to review existing products and develop new products to continue to supply the market with well designed, high quality products to benefit Healthcare Professionals and End Users.
